Cancer of the peritoneal surface (from the appendix, colon, or the lining of the abdominal cavity) and pseudomyxoma peritoneii (a mucus producing tumor of the appendix that causes large amounts of mucus to collect in the abdomen) are complex diseases that are best treated with aggressive removal of the tumor and heated chemotherapy delivered into the abdomen in the operating room.
